Japan culinary experience


ITINERARY: September 1-8, 2014


Day 1 - Arrive in Tokyo

Welcome to Tokyo, the capital of Japan and the most populous metropolitan area in the world.  This great metropolis is the seat of the Japanese government and Imperial Palace, and is the home of the Japanese Imperial Family.  As you arrive into fascinating Tokyo, you will be welcomed by Sovereign’s Guardian Angels with amenities as you load into private luxury sedans that will escort you to your hotel. 

This day will be yours to explore Tokyo on your own.   Then enjoy a full welcome reception and dinner with the group as we prepare to begin our exciting journey together.

Day 2 - Tokyo

Our day begins fresh in the morning at 5am as we head to Tokyo’s Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market, known as the Tsukiji Market, located in central Tokyo which has been a major attraction for foreign visitors. Here we will attend the World famous Tuna auction, and witness this very unique system in the world that regulates price fairness while ensuring food freshness.  Our group will enjoy a Sushi Breakfast at a tiny sushi bar inside the market, which is known to have the best sushi in the world.

After a restful afternoon, our group will enjoy a Michelin star rated restaurant for dinner.  Tokyo, known to be a ‘food mecca,’ prides itself with having the most restaurants in the world boasting this highly sought after Michelin star rating.

Day 3 - Tokyo

This morning our group will enjoy Tokyo sightseeing & free time at the Ginza district, known as the ‘Japanese Beverly Hills’ as it offers the most high-end brand boutiques.

Our group will partake in lunch in the early afternoon at the Ukai-tei in the Omotesando District, which is known for the best Japanese style Teppanyaki with an elegant and stately history of 150 years.   Then we venture to the ‘must-see’ Shibuya Crossing, the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing as traffic is stopped in all directions, as the Shibuya shopping area is sprawling with department stores, fashion boutiques and action – and is a popular location for photos and movies taking place in Tokyo, such as "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."  For more shopping and free time, we will visit Asakusa, the center of Tokyo's low city that brings the atmosphere of Tokyo of the past with it’s many temples, parks, and shrine.

Day 4 - Tokyo-Kyoto

Today we bid ‘sayonara’ to Tokyo and move into the cultural-rich city of Kyoto, which has ranked as top two most attractive cities in Japan.  Here we will experience ‘kaiseki,’ a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner cuisine.

Day 5 - Kyoto

Our group starts the morning with a visit to the Asaichi Market, one of Kyoto's most memorable sight seeing spots and best places to buy souvenirs.  We will stop for a little teahouse break in the Kiyomizu Temple to enjoy tea and traditional sweets while viewing beautiful cherry blossoms.  We culminate the evening with dinner specializing on chicken dishes; chicken is one of best protein sources in Japan, so lets try some chicken sashimi!

Day 6 - Kyoto

We will travel back into history as we discover and participate in some of Japan's cultural experiences, as Kyoto is the heart of Japanese culture and tradition. You will have the evening free to explore Kyoto on your own.

Day 7 - Kyoto-Osaka

As we arrive into Osaka, we will visit Doutonbori Street - Osaka’s main food street also called Kuidaore meaning ‘You can not stop eating because everything is too good’ or basically ‘eat until you drop!’  This principal tourist destination is always featured in guidebooks for both foreign and domestic tourists for food travel in Osaka.  This visit allows for shopping and some free time to explore and do some sightseeing.

When in Japan, a ‘must try’ is Fugu, known as pufferfish or blowfish.  Our group will enjoy the freshest Tora Fugu, or “Tiger blowfish” kaiseki for dinner as we end our amazing culinary journey.

Day 8 - Osaka (Departure)

After enjoying a continental breakfast, Sovereign's Guardian Angels will assist you to your private chauffeured cars to depart to Osaka International Airport.
