2019 John Calvin and Swiss Reformation Tour

ITINERARY: May 20 - 27, 2019

Day 1 - Arrive in Zurich, Switzerland

Guests arrive at Zurich International Airport and are greeted by Sovereign Guardian Angels who will guide guests to their private luxury sedans that will deliver them to our Zurich hotel.

Upon arrival at the hotel, guests are pre-keyed into each of their appointed rooms and will be given the Day 1 Swiss Reformation Tour newsletter that will identify the day’s events.  We will then enjoy a full dinner and first night’s lecture with Dr. Steve Lawson.

Day 2 - Zurich

After a full breakfast and lecture, we will explore beautiful Zurich.  Zwingli died in 1531 defending Zurich from a military attack, and his work of Reformation was taken up by Heinrich Bullinger. The city of Zurich boasts several historic landmarks including Grossmunster and Fraumunster. This afternoon’s city sightseeing with a local guide visits Grossmunster, the cathedral at which Zwingli preached for some twelve years and the Monastery church. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the city and have dinner on their own this evening.

Day 3 - Lauterbrunnen Valley via Lucerne

After enjoying a traditional breakfast, we will travel to the city of Lucerne and will enjoy a scenic ferry ride on the beautiful Lake Lucerne. We will then depart via luxury motor coach towards the Lauterbrunnen Valley, which served as the inspiration for Tolkien's Rivendell from “The Lord of the Rings” novels.  Here, you will have an opportunity to explore the beautiful valley and waterfalls on your own.

Day 4 - Jungfrau Valley

After finishing breakfast, we will explore the Jungfrau Valley and take the cable car and train up to the cliff edged city of Murren where you will enjoy lunch on your own. In Murren you will witness the most beautiful panoramic views to the famous Eiger Mountain, Mönch and Jungfrau. This evening we will have a lecture and a time of fellowship together.

Day 5 - Train to Geneva

After a full breakfast and lecture with Dr. Lawson, we will travel up to Bern and embark on a scenic train ride that will transport us into Calvin’s historic Geneva. Located today on the border of Switzerland and France at the southwest end of Lake Geneva, the city of Geneva was the seat of John Calvin’s ministry from 1536 to 1538 and from 1541 to 1564. The Reformation of Geneva was not easy, but its impact was felt around the world.

Day 6 - Geneva

After a full breakfast, we will worship together and enjoy a sermon with Dr. Lawson. This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Geneva with a local guide. Visit St. Pierre Cathedral, tour John Calvin’s Home and study, see the Reformation Wall, and stop at Calvin’s grave at Cimetière des Rois. Enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure and take the opportunity to enjoy dinner on your own in this eclectic city.

Day 7 - Geneva

After a full breakfast, we will worship together and enjoy a sermon with Dr. Lawson. Today, we will give our guests the opportunity to explore and shop in the beautiful city of Geneva on their own. Tonight marks the last lecture and farewell dinner with Dr. Lawson.

Day 8 - Departure

After a full breakfast, our Sovereign Guardian Angels will assist with your luxury limousine transfers to Geneva International Airport.

To fully participate in this tour, you must be able to walk long distances, have good balance capabilities and be able to walk on uneven terrain. There will also be some climbing involved as well as long periods of standing. Due to the historical nature of some of our destinations, not all facilities will be ADA compliant.

Parents are welcomed to register children above 8 years of age with at least one accompanying adult. We apologize that children under the age of 8 years of age cannot participate in the tour.
